As part of ‘m-governance’ initiatives of Government of Kerala, to provide information to citizens and enforcement team through mobile technology, Motor Vehicles Department has taken a step forward to make available the departmental information through SMS. The SMS based Service of the department was inaugurated by the Transport Commissioner Shri. V P Joy, IAS in a simple function held at the Transport Commissionerate, Trans Towers, Vazhuthacaud, Trivandrum on 26/05/2010. 

The information on Vehicle details, Application status, State Transport Authority (STA) permit application status, allotted registration number of vehicles, vehicle tax, vehicle number booking range, Vehicle Number Availability are available through SMS service by sending SMS to the number 537252. Motor Vehicles Department’s central database contains, details of around 66 Lakhs vehicles and around 1.2 Crore driving licenses. RTO level changes are reflected in the central server within 10 minutes using custom developed replication technology. So the SMS service can easily provide the latest information at your finger tips. . This facility also empower the enforcement officers of Police / MVD/ Excise departments who are on field duty, with all the necessary and correct information about the offenders.

4. To know  Allotted Number : MVD N <Inward No> (Eg: MVD V  KL-01-AX-6759)
5. To know Application Status : MVD A <Inward No> (Eg: MVD A  1/112/2010)
6. To know  STA Permit Status : MVD P <Vehicle Number> (Eg: MVD P  KL-01-AD-6799)
7. To Calculate Vehicle Tax : MVD T <Vehicle Number> (Eg: MVD T  KL-01-AQ-9378)
