The State Level Workshop on National Animal Disease Reporting System NADRS was conducted at Thiruvananthapuram on 18-02-2012.
About 150 participants from the Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Kerala, Veterinary Universities, NIC HQ New Delhi, NIC Kerala State Centre and NIC Officials from the 14 districts of Kerala participated in the workshop.
Shri. T. K. Manoj Kumar IAS, Principal Secretary (AH & DD) to Government of Kerala inaugurated the workshop. Dr.R. Vijayakumar, Director, Animal Husbandry Department delivered the welcome address and Shri. M. Moni, DDG, NIC the presidential address.
Shri. Moni, pointed out that NIC always had good co-operation with the Government of Kerala in dealing with computerisation of various activities. He said that Kerala state has already achieved a high degree of computerisation. He informed that almost 7200 locations across the country has been networked under the NADRS project and 143 diseases are to be monitored both in livestock sector and fisheries sector. An effective feedback from the audience is required for the smooth implementation of the programme.
Shri. T. K. Manoj Kumar IAS, Principal Secretary (AH & DD), in his inaugural speech said that, in order to make the systems more effective, more trainings have to be imparted to the officials. Principal Secretary assured that Government of Kerala will co-operate with NIC in all respects for the effective implementation of this system.
Mr. G. Jayakumar, TD, NIC Kerala made a presentation on the Implementation of NADRS and Operationalisation Plan in Kerala.
Ms. Pratibha Lokhande, TD, NIC HQ New Delhi made a presentation on how Disease Reporting can be made using NADRS system.
Dr. Meera Unwin Antony, Veterinary Surgeon, CDIO Palode made presentations on the present strategies on disease diagnosis. Dr. P D Jasmin, State Epidemiologist, ADCP Trivandrum made presentation on Present system of Disease control and Outbreak management in Kerala.
The participants were divided into three groups and the groups assembled in separate halls and deliberated on (1) Disease and Outbreak Reporting, (2) Scheme Monitoring and (3) Animal disease diagnostic system (laboratory workflow). Each group was headed by a group leader who was selected from the Animal Husbandry Department. Group 1 was co-ordinated by DDG (Shri M. Moni) and Smt. Pratibha Lokhande, TD, NIC(HQ). Group 2 was co-ordinated by Smt. Sameena Mukhija, TD, NIC(HQ). Group 3 was co-ordinated by Shri. Janardhan, PSA, NIC(HQ). After the deliberations were over, the groups again assembled in the Seminar hall and the group leaders presented their recommendations on the areas debated.
